Meeting Description:
PBBS is intended to honour John Esling, FRSC, and his vast contributions to linguistics in general and Articulatory Phonetics in particular.
Professor John Esling has had a distinguished and prolific career on the forefront of Articulatory Phonetics. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, former editor of the Journal of the International Phonetic Association, the former secretary and current President of the International Phonetic Association, and an internationally renowned leader in the field of Phonetic Sciences. (Phonetic) Building Blocks of Speech is intended to honour him and his immeasurable contributions to his field, his students, and his colleagues. It is also intended to reflect and carry forward his legacy of rigorous empirical and applied (phonetic) research.

Themes of the conference, corresponding to areas of research in which Professor Esling has been most active, are:
1) Articulatory phonetics
2) Phonetic typology

4) Language learning and teaching
5) Clinical linguistics, speech sciences, and audiology
6) Speech technology
2nd Call for Papers:
This is the second call for papers for PBBS (Phonetic Building Blocks of Speech), a conference in honour of John Esling, FRSC.
Abstracts are invited for presentations (oral or poster) related to any of the above themes, and more broadly to any topic in phonetics.
Abstracts will be subjected to blind review. Please remove all identifying information from the document. Submission emails should include the following information: (1) name(s) of author(s); (2) affiliation(s); (3) email address(es); (4) preference for oral or poster presentation. Please submit abstracts in .pdf format (maximum 500 words, excluding references) to: pbbs at uvic.ca
Deadline for abstract submission: January 15 2014
