Abstract:

Dans une perspective d'histoire sociolinguistique, ce livre analyse les
conditions qui permirent au français picard d'occuper une place centrale dans
la culture écrite des trois derniers siècles du Moyen Âge. Langue de la
création littéraire, de l'administration et de la régulation sociale, le
picard fut utilisé jusqu'en régions néerlandophones. Sa maîtrise à l'écrit
s'appuyait sur un enseignement dans les écoles urbaines du Nord ; les villes
en furent d'ailleurs le principal foyer de rayonnement.

Taking a historical sociolinguistic perspective, this book analyses the
conditions which allowed the French of Picardie to occupy a central place in
the written culture of the last three centuries of the Middle Ages.
