Description:

Two Postdoctoral Research Fellowships are available from August 2013 at the
Center for Multilingualism in Society across the Lifespan (MultiLing) at the
University of Oslo, a Center of Excellence funded by the Research Council of
Norway.

MultiLing is a Center of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway
and to be officially opened on June 1, 2013. The research profile of MultiLing
is reflected in three mutually dependent and interrelated themes:
Theme 1: Multilingual competence across the lifespan;
Theme 2: Multilingual language choice and practices across the lifespan;
Theme 3: Management of multilingualism across the lifespan: Language policy
and ideologies.

MultiLing seeks to recruit postdoctoral candidates with excellent research
qualifications who will work within the range of the Center’s research
profile.

The successful candidates are expected to strengthen the relevant research
areas addressed in the project description, to contribute to and participate
in the various workshops, conferences and activities organized by MultiLing,
and to be active members of the MultiLing team in Oslo.

The positions are available for a period of three years starting August 1,
2013. There is a 10% duty component devoted to teaching or other qualifying
work for MultiLing. The main purpose of postdoctoral research fellowships is
to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their
disciplines.

Requirements:
- A Ph.D. in linguistics or in a discipline related to MultiLing’s work (the
dissertation must be submitted before the application deadline);
- Good English language skills, both spoken and written, are required.

Qualifications and Personal skills:
We seek strongly motivated, competent and internationally oriented candidates,
with high-ranking academic qualifications in the relevant area of research.

In the evaluation of the applications, emphasis will be placed on:
-  The project’s scientific merit, research-related relevance and innovation;
-  The candidate’s international experience and network;
- The applicant’s academic and personal qualifications to carry out the
project within the allotted time frame;
- Good cooperative skills, and the ability to successfully join in academic
collaboration within and across disciplines.

We offer:
- Salary level 57-65 (NOK 468 400-542 900 per year, depending on level of
expertise);
-  Challenging and stimulating working environment;
-  Attractive welfare benefits.

Submissions:
Applicants must submit the following attachments with the electronic
application, preferably in pdf format:
- Letter of application with an expression of interest and a specification of
how the proposed project relates to the themes of MultiLing (maximum 2 pages);
- Project description (approximately 5 pages) (the project description must
clarify how the applicant will approach the postdoctoral project topic
theoretically and methodologically, and present a feasible progress plan);
-  Curriculum Vitae, including a list of publications;
- Two letters of reference (should be sent separately by the reference, to
Liv Simensen, Faculty of Humanities, PB 1079 Blindern, 0316 OSLO, Norway,
within the closing day for applications.)

Please note that all documents must be in English. Publications, doctoral
theses and other similar documents are not to be submitted with the
application, but applicants may be asked to submit such information or works
at a later date.

The short-listed candidates will be called in for an interview at the
University of Oslo or we will arrange for an interview on Skype.

University of Oslo at the application website address below.
