The University of Luxembourg is a multilingual, international research
University.
The University of Luxembourg is recruiting for its planned Language Centre a:
Senior Lecturer in Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching (Academic
English)

Due to its specific location, history and mission the language policy of the
University of Luxembourg specifies three languages as languages of
instruction: English, French and German. In order to support students as well
as teaching and administrative staff in their linguistic competencies, the
University of Luxembourg is to establish a Language Centre which will be
responsible for the development and implementation of a structured and
diversified programme of courses.
The University of Luxembourg is also planning a Research Priority
Multilingualism and Intercultural Studies. An important task among others will
consist in developing innovative ways of addressing the management of
multilingualism at the level of the University itself. Through its research
the programme will be able to provide evidenced-based recommendations
concerning the language policies of the University. Language teaching, policy
building and research on multilingualism will be in close dialogue with each
other.
Activities:
The duties of the lecturer will be to participate in the development of a
structured course programme for Academic English and to teach academic English
and advanced writing and communication skills to postgraduate and
undergraduate students and to members of UL staff. Other important tasks will
include participation in research on multilingualism/language learning in
Higher Education (within the context of the planned Research Priority), and in
administration related to the implementation of the Language Centre in the
University.
Profile:
Candidates will be required to have a PhD in the field of Applied Linguistics
or any other relevant area, with a clear focus on Teaching Academic English.
Besides excellent proficiency in English, candidates will have at least 3
years of experience in teaching academic English at tertiary level and in
multilingual environments. A track record of post-doctoral research relevant
to the position will be considered a significant advantage. Candidates should
also have a good knowledge of at least one, but ideally both, of the other
working languages of the university, i.e. French and German.
Contract:
- The person to be recruited will support the project during the
implementation phase (2014/2015); change to an open-ended contract is
possible.
- The tasks consist in: 70% teaching, 20% research, 10% administration.
- The planned Language Centre will be attached to the Rectorate, in
particular to the President. With respect to administrative matters, the
person appointed will report to the Senior Advisor to the President on
Multilingualism as administrative head of the planned Centre, Prof. Michel
Margue, while with respect to teaching and research activities, the person
appointed will work under the direction of the scientific and pedagogical
coordinator of the Centre, Prof. A. Hu, both representatives of the President
of the University.
