We are pleased to announce that an international workshop on Chinese Numeral Classifiers: Semantics, Structure and Pragmatics will be held at Zhejiang University from October 17 to October 18, 2013. The aim of this workshop is to bring together scholars to work toward a comprehensive understanding of the semantics, structure and pragmatics of Chinese numeral classifiers as well as the interactions between them.
Recently, a vigorous debate has arisen with regards to issues about the definiteness and referentiality of Chinese classifiers and whether these classifiers are lexical or functional (e.g. Wu & Bodomo 2009, Gebhardt 2011, Simpson et al. 2011, Cheng & Sybesma 2012, Li & Bisang 2012, Cheng & Sybesma 2012, C.Zhang 2012, N.Zhang 2013, Li 2013 among others). The aim of this workshop is to bring together scholars to work toward a comprehensive understanding of the semantics, structure and pragmatics of Chinese numeral classifiers as well as the interactions between them.
The registration fee is 200 euro, covering access to all meals, coffee breaks and workshop material and some special events. A number of special events will be organized: A night of entertainment on the West Lake, a one-day tour of the West Lake and other places of interest.
