Germanic Society for Forensic Linguistics (GSFL) 
September 7-8 in Mainz, Germany

The Germanic Society of Forensic Linguistics (GSFL) is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Roundtable in Forensic Linguistics. 

The purpose of the GSFL Roundtable is to provide researchers, teachers, and practitioners working within all sub-areas of forensic linguistics the opportunity to present and discuss their work within an interdisciplinary setting. For this reason the Roundtable will take place at the end of the 2013 International Summer School for Forensic Linguistic Analysis which this year will also be held in Mainz, Germany from September 2-6: http://www.forensiclinguistics.eu/.

2nd Call for Papers:

The Germanic Society of Forensic Linguistics (GSFL) is pleased to announce the second and final call for poster abstracts for the First Annual Roundtable in Forensic Linguistics. 

Given the continuing interest in the GSFL, the selection committee has decided to extend its call for posters for the upcoming Roundtable. In alphabetical order, confirmed speakers and presentations include the following: 

Johann De Wet from the University of KwaZulu-Natal(South Africa)
Topic: ‘Case Studies in the Language of Serial Rapists’ 

Malcolm Coulthard from Aston University(England)
Topic: ‘Forensic Linguistics in Germany: A Prospective - Viewing Europe from the Third World’

Michael Jessen from the Bundeskriminalamt (Germany)
Topic: ‘The Likelihood Ratio Approach in Forensic Phonetics’

Lawrence Solan from the Brooklyn Law School (USA)
Topic: ‘Linguistics and Legislative Style – The Case of Guardianship Law and the Protection of the Elderly and Disabled’

Students are also warmly encouraged to present their work and receive constructive feedback from peers and scholars in the field. If you would like to present a poster, please complete the information sheet and return it by July 31, 2013 to I. M. Laversuch Nick at mavi.yaz at web.de. Notification regarding poster acceptances will be sent on or about August 5, 2013. Tickets are still available for persons wanting to attend the Roundtable without presenting a poster or paper. - The language of (violent) offenders and/or victims

Language, the Law, and the Legal Process
- Courtroom interpreting and translating
- Multilingualism and the legal system
- Language minorities and the law
- Legal discourse and legal texts
- Language testing, citizenship, and asylum
- Investigative interviewing and/or interrogative practices
- Legal policies on presenting expert witness testimony and evidence 

Forensic Linguistics and Education
- Developing FL programs and curricula
- FL instructional materials (textbooks, audiovisual aids, corpora, etc.) 
- Developing ties with universities and professional organizations
- Interdisciplinary challenges and promises
- Future of FL education inside and outside of Europe
