Meeting Description:
Five French labs are organizing an international workshop in Paris, focused on the work of Tobias Scheer, with the aim of assessing the current issues in theoretical Phonology and its interfaces. The purpose of the workshop is to discuss, pro et contra, the main theoretical contributions of the over sixty research papers (see www.unice.fr/dsl/tobweb/papers.htm) and his three books (published by Mouton de Gruyter) and to explore the directions of their subsequent developments:
- A lateral theory of phonology. Vol.1 : What is CVCV, and why should it be ? (2004)
- A Guide to Morphosyntax-Phonology Interface Theories. How Extra-Phonological Information is Treated in Phonology since Trubetzkoy's Grenzsignale (2011)
- Direct Interface and One-Channel Translation. A Non-Diacritic Theory of the Morphosyntax-Phonology Interface. Vol.2 of A Lateral Theory of Phonology (2012)
The workshop will consist of roughly 20 keynote presentations (see details about invited speakers in the attached document), organized around three main topics:
1. Phonology (government phonology, syllabic theory, accent, apophony, diachrony, Slavic languages...)
2. Morpho-syntactic interfaces and architecture of the grammar
3. Epistemological issues and connections with the cognitive sciences
Call for Posters:
We also invite abstract submissions for three parallel poster sessions, one on each of the three days of the workshop. One person can submit at most two abstracts and only one as first author. Abstracts must be submitted electronically in PDF format. Submissions should be anonymous and not reveal the identity of the author(s) in any form (e.g., references, file name or properties of the abstract). Abstracts must not exceed two pages in letter-size or A4 paper, including examples and references, with 2.5 cm (1 inch) margins on all sides and 12 point font size. Abstracts should be submitted via the EasyChair conference system page. Abstracts will be reviewed and selected by an international scientific committee
