Englishes Today is concerned with the expansion of English around the world and with its development into distinctive first, second and foreign language varieties, these having been subject to different classifications and models of analysis (see specially Kachru 1986, McArthur 1998 and Schneider 2007). The spread and globalization of English has proved to be of interest in the study of diverse linguistic phenomena, as well as a testing ground for various frameworks and research traditions, among them typological linguistics, second language acquisition, contact linguistics and sociolinguistics. 

>From a methodological perspective the study of World Englishes poses a challenge, and attempts have been made to address these in corpus linguistics, sociolinguistic fieldwork and variationist studies. The aim of this conference is to contribute to this increasingly fashionable but still largely under-explored field of research by bringing together ideas from different frameworks and approaches, these dealing with any aspect of Englishes today in terms of their origin, status and development.

2nd Call for Papers:

We invite abstracts dealing with any aspect of English as a native or non-native language: the analysis of universal and specific linguistic features (grammatical, phonological, lexical, discursive, pragmatic), determinants of variation (sociological factors, cognitive constraints), identity issues, sociolinguistic fieldwork, Web-derived data, compilation of synchronic and diachronic corpora and repercussions in the teaching of English as a foreign language.
 
Proposals for 20 minute presentations, plus 10 minutes for questions and discussion, must be anonymously submitted via EasyAbs application (http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/englishes2013) before 31 March 2013. Abstracts should be 300-400 words long (excluding references). Abstracts will be anonymously reviewed by the scientific committee, and the conference language will be English.
 
Notification of acceptance will be sent out by 30 April 2013.
 
Publication:

Authors of papers accepted for presentation will be invited to submit their paper for publication in a special journal issue or volume with an international publisher. Papers will be subjected to refereeing.
