Meeting Description:

This workshop marks the end of the SGADS project (Grammatical variation across academic genres), a project founded by the Research Council of the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle and coordinated by Elsa Pic and Grégory Furmaniak (http://www.univ-paris3.fr/2012-2013-du-discours-specialise-au-discours-vulgarise-sensibilite-de-la-grammaire-anglaise-au-degre-de-specialisation-140801.kjsp). The aim of the workshop is to present the main results from the project but also to extend the discussion to other related issues.

The SGADS project focused on grammatical variations across two academic genres - research articles and popular science articles in English, but the conference theme will be extended to the mediation of expert discourse, defined as any kind of expert discourse directed at a speech community outside the circle of experts.

2nd Call for Papers:

Papers should deal with any kind of oral or written mediated discourse (popularization, textbooks, press articles, institutional texts, etc.), preferably in English and/or in French. Corpus-based studies are strongly recommended and the perspective adopted should be mainly linguistic, even though approaches drawing on other disciplines (Communication Studies, Rhetoric, Philosophy or Sociology) are welcome. Proposals dealing with a well-circumscribed phenomenon (formal, semantic or stylistic) will be given preference.

The workshop languages are French and English.

Authors are invited to submit anonymous abstracts in French or in English in the topic area of this workshop. Contributions must be submitted in PDF format and should not exceed 500 words (excluding references). Submissions should be sent via email to the organizers (elsa.pic at univ-paris3.fr and gregory.furmaniak at univ-paris3.fr) by 22 April 2013. The body of the email message should contain the following information: title of abstract, author’s full name, author’s affiliation, contact email address, and field of research.

A selection of the best papers will be published in an edited book or in a special themed issue of a peer-reviewed journal.
