Meeting Description:
Assuring Access to Essential Public Services: Training Issues in Interpreter-mediated Interaction
May 9-10, 2013
The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and the Research Centre for the analysis of Interaction and Mediation are very pleased to host the second international AIM workshop, to be held May 9th to 10th 2013. This year’s workshop concerns a type of interaction that is becoming increasingly frequent in nowadays world and increasingly interesting in interaction studies, that is Public Service Interpreting, where a bilingual mediator helps participants understand each other by engaging in interpreting and translation activity. Like its previous edition, the workshop has a clear applied perspective and will be organized as to provide a forum for debate and exchange, with ample time for presentations (six altogether) and discussion. This workshop will bring together representatives from the spheres of dialogue interpreting, interpreters’ training, healthcare services, and conversation analysis. We welcome academics, interpreting practitioners, interpreter trainers, and service providers who are interested in the debate. Fees amount to 30 euros per person and participants are restricted to maximum 60. The places will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
