Meeting Description:

The 5th International Conference on the Linguistics of Contemporary English (ICLCE 5) will be held September 25-29, 2013, at the University of Texas at Austin.

The attention devoted to the linguistics of the English language has resulted in a broad body of work in diverse research traditions. The aim of the ICLCE conference is to encourage the cross-fertilization of ideas between different frameworks and research traditions, all of which may address any aspect of the linguistics of contemporary English. Previous ICLCE conferences were held in Edinburgh (2005), Toulouse (2007), London (2009), and Osnabrück (2011) along the same lines. As ICLCE moves west of the Atlantic Ocean for the first time, we hope to build on these successes.

The following speakers have agreed to deliver plenary addresses at ICLCE 5:

John Beavers (University of Texas at Austin)
Alexander Bergs (University of Osnabrück)
Jan Blommaert (Tilburg University) abstract
Barbara Johnstone (Carnegie Mellon University)
Hans Lindquist (Malmö University)
Masayoshi Shibatani (Rice University)

Final Call for Papers:

Deadline extended: The deadline for submissions of paper and panel abstracts for ICLCE 5 has been extended by two weeks. The new (and final) closing date is now March 22, 2013.

We invite abstracts dealing with any aspect of the structure of contemporary varieties of English, in terms of their phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics etc., in any way which aims to be explanatory. Work on any variety (or number of varieties) is welcome, as well as work exploring variation. We do not intend to accept abstracts which are purely historical, but we do encourage those that bring in diachrony in order to explain the structure of Present-Day English.

We are accepting abstracts for 20-minute paper presentations and for organized panels. Abstract submission will be handled online at the following URL: http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/ICLCE2013.
