Meeting Description:
The Semantic Field of Emotions: Interdisciplinary and Cross-linguistic Approaches. From Word to Phrase and Text.
Dates and Location:
September 26-29, 2013
Rhodes University (http://www.rhodes.aegean.gr/icgl11)
Even though emotion terms have been widely studied in previous research a number of issues haven’t been addressed so far. The study of emotion within the frame of different theoretical models (Generative theory, Lexical-Functional Theory, Meaning-Text theory, Lexicon-Grammar theory) has mainly focused on the analysis of semantic and syntactic properties of nominal or verbal predicates. Cognitive linguistics, on the other hand, have proposed a solid theory for the analysis of metaphors in emotion vocabulary. Finally sentiment analysis in written texts is a current trend and challenge in the area of Language Technology.
The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the state-of-the art in the study of emotions and to contribute to the ongoing research. The workshop intends to bring researchers together who work in different parts of the relevant disciplines (syntax, semantics, computational linguistics, corpus linguistics, psycholinguistics, cognitive linguistics), so viewpoints can be shared and new ideas stimulated. It also aims to bring the most recent viewpoints and insights together, and to work on advancing the field of emotion study.
Call for Papers:
We would like to invite researchers with expertise in the field to submit abstracts for presentations that address questions related to the semantic field of emotions in the languages of the world. We particularly encourage contributions focusing on the following issues:
- Syntax and semantics of emotions
- Discourse analysis
- Corpus Linguistics
- Lexicographic approaches (colligational & collocational patterns) to emotion
- Psycholinguistic or cognitive approaches to emotion
- Sentiment analysis and language resources
We invite the submission of abstracts in Greek, English or French for 20 minute oral presentations or 10 minutes poster presentations. The desired length for abstracts is 1 page of text plus any amount of pages of references, data tables or examples. Abstracts should be sent to the organizing committee at elinaxp at hotmail.com by no later than April 21, 2013. There will be room for only a limited number of oral presentations or poster presentations.
Important Dates:
Deadline for submission of abstracts: April 21, 2013
