Description:
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania invites
applications for a one-year full-time lecturer position in Language Variation,
for the period July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014. The successful candidate should
have the Ph.D. completed before starting. Duties will include teaching two
courses per semester, including sociolinguistics at both the undergraduate and
graduate levels. The Department of Linguistics is committed to Penn's Action
Plan for Faculty Diversity and Excellence and to establishing a diverse

Applicants should present a proven record of research in language variation --
phonetic, phonological, morphological, or syntactic variation, where the
variation applies between speakers, between groups of speakers determined by
social characteristics, between dialects or languages, or between time
periods. Applicants should also present evidence of excellence in teaching.
The department particularly encourages applications from scholars who can
contribute to Penn's tradition of cooperation across subdisciplines within
linguistics.
Applications must include a curriculum vitae, a statement of research and
teaching interests, and representative publications. Also, applicants must
submit the names and contact information of three referees who have agreed to
provide letters of reference. The University will contact the referees with
instructions on how to submit their letters.
Review of applications will begin on April 15, 2013, and will continue until
the position is filled. Candidates are advised to apply as early as possible.
