Description:

The Hong Kong Institute of Education is one of the eight Hong Kong government-funded tertiary institutions. The Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies invites applications for admission into our Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Ph.D. degree programmes in 2014/15. 

Successful applicants will be awarded generous studentships of up to six semesters.  The monthly stipend for the 2013-14 academic year is HK$13,800. Non-local applicants are guaranteed on-campus residence. 

In line with the Hong Kong government’s language policy goal of biliteracy and trilingualism, we have been conducting high-quality research on the functioning of human language as a semiotic, meaning-making system, with particular reference to language learning and use in multilingual settings. We welcome doctoral-level projects that help advance our understanding of these and other related research areas, especially projects which call for scientific, inter-disciplinary inquiry that entails the use of multiple methods.
