Meeting Description:

The Cognitive Creolistics group is pleased to announce that the conference 'Time and space in linguistics: interdisciplinary computational approaches' (TaSiL 2014) will take place at Aarhus University, January 15-16, 2014. 

The conference will be followed by a one-day workshop on creole languages entitled 'Cross-creole comparisons' on January 17, 2014, to celebrate the publication of the APiCS, the Atlas of Pidgin and Creole Structures (Michaelis et al. 2013, OUP).

In recent years, research has focused on connections between the geographical patterning of languages and language families, as well as on temporal aspects concerning the spread and diversification of languages. In addition, researchers have attempted to link this spread and diversification of languages with non- linguistic aspects, such as population movements (demographics), cultural practices (cultural anthropology), group size and structure (sociology), genes (biology) or features of the landscape (geography).

Call for Papers:

For the conference ''Time and space in linguistics: interdisciplinary computational approaches'', we would like to invite papers contributing to fields such as Quantitative Typology, Historical Linguistics, Computational Phylogenetics, Anthropological Linguistics, Geolinguistics, Evolutionary Linguistics and Bioinformatics.

For the workshop ''Cross-creole comparisons'', we would like to invite papers dealing with geographical, typological and historical aspects of contact languages, especially if they make use of cross-linguistic data, such as those available from the APiCS and similar databases. Also, work on non-Indo-European lexifier contact varieties is particularly welcome.

Abstracts should be no more than 300 words (plus title) and must be submitted online. The text of the abstract should not reveal the name(s) of the authors. In the heading, please mention ''tasil2014'' or ''creole'', depending on whether you wish to submit to the conference or to the workshop respectively. Please send your abstract as a .pdf file to tasil2014 at gmail.com no later than October 15, 2013. The abstracts will be reviewed by an external scientific committee. Notification of acceptance can be expected by November 15, 2012.
