Call for papers for a volume on Cognitive and Cross-linguistic Aspects of Literature, edited by Marla Perkins, to be submitted to the Oxford University Press series on Cognition and Poetics
Series Editors: Alexander Bergs, Margaret H. Freeman, Peter Schneck, Achim Stephan

The series editors of Cognition and Poetics, a new series from Oxford University Press, have invited me to edit a volume on Cognitive and Cross-linguistic Aspects of Literature.

The editor seeks papers on cognitive, cross-linguistic literary studies.  Some themes that are emerging in the field include, but are not limited to, the following: cognitive aspects of literary translation, cross-linguistic comparisons of literary phenomena with regard to their cognitive significance, ways of thinking about literary language in various languages, and cognitive aspects of the development or use of literary phenomena in various languages.  The primary goal is to publish papers that demonstrate the commonalities and differences between and among cognitive aspects of the world’s literary languages.  Themes should not be considered as the limits of the project, but merely suggestions for directions that are currently available.  Papers that go beyond or outside of these themes are welcome.

If you wish to contribute a paper to this volume, please submit a title, a 500-word abstract in which you outline your method, findings, and main sources, and your name and contact information to the editor, Marla Perkins, at mp854 at nau.edu by October 31, 2013.  Anticipated paper length is 7,000-10,000 words, excluding citations and appendices, and OUP prefers Chicago style.  All other inquiries should be sent to mp854 at nau.edu, as well.  The anticipated submission date for final papers is July 31, 2014, pending OUP’s final approval of the proposed volume.
