The Graduate School for East and South East European Studies is an interdisciplinary joint institution of the University of Regensburg and the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, which combines theoretical perspectives and practical expertise from the disciplines of History, Literature Studies, Linguistics, Politics, Law, Theater Studies and Art History.

The workshop caters for prospective applicants for the PhD-program of the Graduate School for East and South East European Studies, which have master degree in Linguistics (or will attain such before August 24, 2014), and who are interested in pursuing PhD-research projects connected with Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Preference will be given to applicants with degree in the fields of Slavic, Finno-Ugric and Turkic (or Yiddish) languages and linguistics, and to research projects related to language contact, diachronic and synchronic perspectives to linguistic areas, minority languages, language planning and transnational language policies in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

The one-day workshop will provide an overview of the structure of the Graduate School and its interdisciplinary profile (visit also http://www.gs-oses.de/graduiertenschule-fuer-ost-und-suedosteuropastudien.html), and will instruct participants in the preparation of a well-targeted doctoral research project for the next application round, which will start on 01.07.2014 and end on 24.08.2014. The workshop session will be supervised by Björn Hansen (professor of Slavic languages at the University of Regensburg) and Petar Kehayov (senior researcher at the Graduate School). After the workshop, the participants will have an opportunity to attend one of the regular colloquiums of the Graduate School for East and South East European Studies.

Applications for the workshop should be sent to Sophia Neidhardt (graduiertenschule at ur.de) before April 30, 2014, and include:

Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a program.
