Meeting Description:

As with the first two workshops in 2012 and 2013, this workshop is an attempt to bring together linguists working in Southern African microlinguistics (broadly defined as linguistics which focuses on the structure of language as opposed to, for example, its sociological or educational role in society). The workshop provides an opportunity for in-depth presentation and discussion given that each session is an hour long (approximately 30 minutes for presentation, 30 minutes for discussion), with no parallel sessions. 

The 2014 workshop will also feature at least one two-hour-long panel discussion on the broad topic of nativism vs. empiricism. The two debaters will be Prof Bertus van Rooy from NWU (Vaal-Triangle Campus) and Prof Mark de Vos (Rhodes University). The four-day program is however flexible and can allow for other ‘genres’ (e.g. roundtable-discussion, keynote-address) on request.

Call for Papers:

Abstracts for SAMWOP-3 are due by 1 July 2014 and potential participants will know by the end of that month whether or not their papers have been included in the programme.

Abstracts may consist of at most 1 page of text and 1 page of data, references etc. Pages must be A4 with standard 2.54cm margins with 12pt Times New Roman font or similar.
