Description:
Professor Albert Valdman is retiring in June 2015 from his position as Editor of Studies in Second Language Acquisition (SSLA). Cambridge University Press is now inviting applications for the position of Editor. A team of Co-Editors, or an Editor and Associate Editors will also be considered. Final appointment decisions will be made by the Syndicate of Cambridge University Press.
The deadline for applications is July 15, 2014.
SSLA is a refereed journal of international scope devoted to the scientific discussion of issues in second and foreign language acquisition of any language. Each volume contains four issues, one of which is generally devoted to a current topic in the field. The other three issues contain articles dealing with theoretical topics, some of which have broad pedagogical implications, and reports of quantitative and qualitative empirical research. Other rubrics include replication studies, State-of-the-Art articles, Notes and Discussion, review articles, book reviews, and book notices.
SSLA is publishing volume 36 in 2014. Its 2012 Impact Factor was 1.8, placing it 11th out of 162 journals in the Linguistics JCR (ranked by Impact Factor).
Interested applicants should send a resume and cover letter, and the names and email addresses of three references, to Melissa Good (details below).
Editorial responsibilities will include
- Shaping the strategic direction of the journal, in cooperation with Cambridge
- Organizing and managing the editorial office, with support from Cambridge
- Managing the peer review process (the journal uses the Scholar One system)
- Making final article acceptance decisions
- Editing and proofing articles for the journal
- Proposing to Cambridge, and working with, the members of an active Editorial Board
- Attending relevant conferences and an annual editorial meeting
