Description:
The Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences (CAA-accredited)
invites applicants for a tenured/tenure-track position in Language
Science/Disorders, and leading role in the University of Maryland
Language Science Center, beginning August 2015.
Qualifications for the faculty position include an earned doctorate in a
related discipline (e.g., speech-language pathology, psychology,
neuroscience). All relevant areas of expertise will be considered.
Applicants should demonstrate a distinguished record of publication
history of external funding, teaching and mentoring experience, and
active research program commensurate with level of appointment.
Expertise in communication development/disorder in pediatric
populations and CCC are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities include conducting an active and independent
research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses,
mentoring graduate students, taking a leading role in the newly
established campus-wide Language Science Center, and participating
in other departmental and university activities. Colleagues who would
be interested in furthering research ties with other interdisciplinary
initiatives on campus (such as the Neuroscience and Cognitive Science
Program, the University of Maryland Autism Research Consortium,
and/or the Maryland Neuroimaging Center), or who will strengthen
connections with other programs or departments on campus (such as
human development, special education, linguistics, or psychology), are
strongly encouraged to apply.
Salary is negotiable, depending upon qualifications and experience.
The department offers B.A., M.A., Au.D., and Ph.D. degrees and is one
of the largest Hearing and Speech Sciences programs in the mid-
Atlantic region (web page: http://www.hesp.umd.edu). The College
Park campus is located in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area
in close proximity to numerous world-renowned medical institutions
and research facilities including the NIH, Walter Reed National Military
Medical Center, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of
Maryland School of Medicine.
