Description:

The Linguistics Program at the CUNY Graduate Center offers 5-year fellowships at the Ph.D. level, covering tuition and a $25,000 stipend per year. The Program prepares students for careers in scientific research, teaching, private industry and public planning. To this end, we offer coursework, laboratory experience, and research supervision in Theoretical, Experimental, Descriptive and Applied Linguistics. All graduate students work closely with faculty members of their choice.
Our faculty members are internationally recognized for their research expertise in many areas including:
- Bilingualism and Multilingualism; 
- Computational Linguistics; 
- Endangered Languages;
- First Language Acquisition; 
- Historical Linguistics; 
- Linguistic Typology;
- Morphology; 
- Neurolinguistics;	
- Phonetics and Laboratory Phonology;
- Phonology;
- Psycholinguistics;
- Second Language Acquisition; 
- Semantics;
- sentence processing; 
- Sociolinguistics; 
- Syntax.

Research opportunities are available in various laboratories and research initiatives. At the Graduate Center students can work in / on:
- The Audio-Aligned and Parsed Corpus of Appalachian English Project; 
- The Endangered Language Initiative; 
- The Project on Spanish in New York City;
- The Psycholinguistics Laboratory; 
- The Research Institute for the Study of Language in Urban Society; 
- The Second Language Acquisition Laboratory.

In addition, there are several other laboratories directed by Program faculty and housed in affiliated departments across CUNY.
