Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a non-tenure track, full-time
position as Lecturer/ Instructor for Swahili for the 2015-16 academic year,
with a target start date of August 16, 2015. Renewal of the position is
contingent on availability of funding, strong performance reviews and
sufficient course enrollments. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities include teaching six courses per year and assisting in
running extra-curricular and outreach activities, in consultation with the
language program director. Duties include teaching, grading, material
development, holding office hours, attending meetings, and well as assisting
with special events (such as languages days, film nights, conversation tables)
and promoting the program through activities, flyers, informational sessions,
as applicable.

Experience in language teaching and at least a Master’s degree are required. A
specialization in Swahili or experience with teaching Swahili as a foreign
language, particularly at university level, is preferred.

Candidates with a PhD in hand and evidence of successful teaching at the
graduate and undergraduate levels will be considered as a Lecturer. Candidates
who are ABD or hold a Master’s degree and present evidence of successful
teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels will be considered as an
Instructor.
