Meeting Description:

The School of Indian Languages, University of Kerala announces its first
international seminar on Indian Language Technology: State and Prospects to
be organized from March 18 - 21, 2014 in Thiruvananthapuram.

In this seminar the current status and future prospects relating to the
Indian Language Technology initiatives with a special focus on the
achievements and predicaments will be discussed. The interface of natural
language and technology is a domain of vibrant activity; its R&D is highly
innovative and is an emerging area of coordination between science and
technology. This seminar facilitates formation of a comprehensive framework
for addressing the multifarious issues, linguistic and technological,
propping up in handling Indian languages. India, with its huge potential of
linguistic diversity, offers new technological opportunities in the
development and application of human language technologies. Technology
based linguistic research for human welfare is having paramount importance
in India. Grass root level dissemination of language technology should be
our goal. Many regional languages are deprived of the benefits of
information technology development. The benefits of information technology
can reach to the common man only when software tools and human machine
interface systems are freely available in people’s languages.

Registration and Travel Policy:

Registration fees for foreigners: $100
For Indians: 500 Rs
For students: 250 Rs

It may also be noted that the expenses related to travel may be arranged
individually except the inviting scholars as resource persons. Local
hospitality and accommodation would be extended to the delegates during
seminar by the university.

Call for Papers:

The first international seminar on Indian Language Technology: State and
Prospects is proposed to deliberate on the following themes:

1. Text processing: Morph analyser, Pos tagging, parsing 
2. Speech processing: Text to speech(TTS), automatic speech
recognition(ASR), speech to speech translation
3. Text recognition, OCR, segmentation, feature extraction etc
4. Syntactic ,semantic and pragmatic  processing
5. Machine translation 
6. Industrial application of NLP: Search engines, text editors etc.
7. Information extraction,  retrieval, indexing
8. Text mining–exploratory analysis, information extraction, text
classification, text summarization
9. Applications of language technology in education and allied areas
10. Language technology policy of India etc.

We invite papers on any of the above mentioned themes. Contributors are
expected to explore the language technological significance of the question
emerging within the scope of each theme. However, good quality language
technology papers not falling under any of the above mentioned themes also
welcome.

Papers are invited from students and scholars of computational linguistics,
natural language processing, language technology and computer science and
experts from related Industries. Authors are advised to limit their
contributions to 3000- 5000 words. Papers should be prepared for review and
sent along with a 200 words abstract on or before Feb.15, 2014. The papers
