Meeting Description:
The 2014 conference focuses on the interdisciplinary nature of linguistics in the field of language competence and use. This meeting aims to showcase the current diversity of the field of linguistics and the blurring of the boundaries between linguistics and other domains of study concerned with the structure, function and value of language.
Conference language: The conference language will be English.
Organising committee: Dr Ramona Kunene Nicolas (Convenor); Prof Tommaso Milani; Dr Maxwell Kadenge; Dr Andrew Van Der Spuy
2nd Call for Papers/ 1st Call for Workshops:
The conference welcomes theoretical and empirical contributions that explore the principles that underlie language, as well as the anthropological, cultural, social and psychological issues that underpin language use.
Abstract Submission:
We invite abstracts of no more than 300 words. Abstracts must report previously unpublished work.
Three kinds of presentation are available:
- Paper presentations: Paper presentations will be 25 minutes (20 minutes for talk time and 5 minutes for discussion).
- Thematic panels: Papers that address a common theme may be submitted as a thematic panel. Panels should consist of at least four talks, which must be submitted individually as Paper Presentations. Each individual abstract should indicate the name of the proposed Thematic Panel.
- Poster presentations: Poster presentations are an opportunity for more extended interaction. Posters will be displayed during poster sessions, with ample opportunity for discussion.
Workshops:
We also invite proposals for pre-conference workshops which will be held on the 24th June 2014. Workshop proposals should be emailed to Conference2014.linguistics at wits.ac.za, by the 15th March 2014.
