Meeting Description:

The 2nd LPRG Postgraduate politeness conference will be taking place at Sheffield Hallam University on Thursday, March 13, 2014, from 9.00 -5.00. 

The aim of the conference is to provide a platform for postgraduate and early-career researchers to present and discuss their research in the field of Linguistic Politeness. Researchers will also have opportunity to to build and strengthen their research networks by engaging with a wider audience of both newer and more established academics.
 
Keynote Speakers:

Karen Grainger, University of Sheffield Hallam
Jodie Clark, University of Sheffield Hallam
Christine Christie, Loughborough University
 
This is a free conference (no fees). No lunch or coffee will be provided, so you are welcome to bring your own. You will be able to buy sandwiches and coffee/tea in the conference building.

Conference Registration: 

The conference is free but places are limited, so registration is required. To register, please email Isabelle van der Bom at dsiv at exchange.shu.ac.uk.

2nd Call for Papers: 

Call for papers is now open. We encourage submissions from a wide variety of topics within the field of politeness. We will select abstracts in terms of their originality, clarity, and appropriateness to politeness studies. If you would like to present your paper, please send a short abstract (500 words max) to Isabelle van der Bom: dsiv at exchange.shu.ac.uk. The deadline for abstracts is the 31 January 2014. 

Some of the topics within the field of politeness you could submit (but are by no means limited to) include:

- Politeness and gender
- New methodologies and approaches within politeness research
- Historical politeness
- Politeness and impoliteness
- Politeness and the (new) media
- Politeness across borders, communities, and languages
