Enhancing Business English: Beyond Proficiency
English Language Department, Higher Institute for Applied Studies in Humanities, at Kef, Tunisia
3-4 April 2014
In Tunisia and elsewhere there is a need to assess students’ language proficiency in business English and related courses for the demand of the globalised employment requirement in intercultural contexts. This raises challenges for English teaching staff to improve the content and assessment methods of our courses.
The apparent low language proficiency levels of some graduates may lead to questions about the effectiveness of current course objectives, expected outcomes and assessment methods. Meanwhile, employers in business and related fields may expect graduates to have developed professional as well as linguistics skills.
