Description:

An EPSRC-funded project, investigating face-to-face dialogue from a cross-linguistic perspective, is looking for annotators for gesture and/or information structure and/or intonation for four different languages (see below).

The gesture annotation will be performed in ELAN, and the information structure and intonation annotation will be performed in Praat. The data to be annotated consists of 1 hour recording of face-to-face dialogue between 2 people (per language). 

Preferred skills: 
- Native level proficiency of one of the following languages:
   - Bulgarian 
   - English 
   - Italian
   - Hungarian
- Experience with gesture annotation (e.g., identification of gesture boundaries, gesture phases, gesture labelling, following the well-established conventions of Kendon and McNeill) and/or information structure annotation and/or intonation annotation (for English, we're expecting training in ToBI).
- Prior training in the ELAN annotation system (or in an alternative annotation system such as Anvil and hence the ability to quickly learn ELAN) and/or Praat
- If the annotator is interested in working on the gesture annotation, they must be able to play the video files themselves in ELAN. The files are in the QuickTime (.mov) format, using the H.264 codec, and have been tested to work on Macs and Windows 7. Our tests were unfortunately unsuccessful in playing the files on Linux. 
- If the annotator is interested in working on the information structure and/or intonation annotation, they should be able to use Praat
- Minimum commitment of 10-20 hours/week for the next 1-2 months, to start as soon as possible (this is strongly preferred for the gesture annotation; the other annotation work could be carried out a later stage).

Please note that due to funding restrictions, only annotators that have the right to work in the UK will be considered. This means that you do not necessarily have to be physically present in the UK, but you have to be eligible to work in the UK (British, Hungarian, Italian, and Bulgarian nationals should be okay but please consult the UKBA website for confirmation).
