English and Literary Studies in Nigeria: Essays in Honour of Ayo Banjo

Emeritus Professor Ayo Banjo, the longest serving Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, will turn 80 on the 2nd of May, 2014. As a world-acclaimed outstanding scholar of English, he has impacted the Nigerian English and literary studies excellently through milestone contributions that have given direction to the theory and practice of the disciplines in Nigeria. In recognition of this great contribution, the Department of English, University of Ibadan, is planning a publication in his honour. This publication, which is expected to cover his major and aligned areas of research interest, will address the following topics/issues (and others considered to be relevant to English and literary studies in Nigeria) in theory and practice:

1. History of English in Nigeria.
2. The Banjonian Classification of English in Nigeria: strengths and weaknesses.
3. Contextual dynamism and Banjonian paradigms.
4. Variety differentiation in Nigerian English.
5. The Nigerian national language question and Banjonian interventions.
6. Nigerian English and the question of international intelligibility.
7. Current trends in Nigerian English morphology and syntax.
8. Current trends in Nigerian English lexis and semantics.
9. Current trends in Nigerian English phonology.
10. Sociolinguistic features of Nigerian English.
11. Pragmatic features of Nigerian English.
12. Stylistic features of Nigerian English.
13. Lexicography and Nigerian English.
14. The interactions of English and indigenous languages.
15. Generations of Nigerian literary artists.
16. History of Nigerian literature in English.
17. Adaptations of Nigerian indigenous languages in Nigerian literature: poetry, drama and prose.
18. Manifestations of global literary traditions in Nigerian literature.
19. Oral tradition forms in Nigerian literary expression.
20. Cultural presence in Nigerian literature: poetry, drama and prose.
21. English and literary studies in Nigeria: How far and to where? 

Articles, which should be between 5000 and 8000, should be sent electronically to papaabnm2 at gmail.com and ebomobowale at yahoo.com. The deadline for all submissions is December 15, 2014.
