Description:

The Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literature at Florida Atlantic University seeks two full-time Visiting Instructors of Spanish with specialization in online language course design, implementation,  organization and delivery. One-year appointment with possibility of renewal; course load of 4/4, with majority of courses taught at the first- and second-semester levels and in a fully online format. Position begins August 06, 2014. Participation in cultural activities sponsored by department expected; continuing professional development strongly supported. The successful candidates will have a clear and coherent teaching philosophy geared to the specifically online environment, formal exposure to or training in second language teaching methodologies, and experience in designing, implementing and teaching language courses in a fully online modality. Professional training/certification in eLearning context highly desirable, especially in course development, assessment, management. Required: MA or PhD in Spanish in hand (MA required; PhD preferred); superior-level proficiency in both Spanish and English; proof of excellence in teaching Spanish language courses in an online format.

5. proof of excellence in teaching online courses (via course evaluations or other means); and 
6. a teaching portfolio which must include, at a minimum, 
a. a statement of teaching philosophy specific to the fully online course modality, 
b. a sample course syllabus for a basic Spanish language course taught fully online, and 
c. demonstration of a sample course module from same. 

Preliminary interviews to be conducted via Skype in late June, and will continue until positions are filled.

Candidates chosen for the positions will need to complete an electronic Faculty, Administrative, Managerial & Professional Position Application through the Office of Human Resources, pass a background check, and if applicable, provide validation of any postsecondary degrees obtained from outside the US by means of an official evaluation/translation prepared by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Service (NACES). [Note: Evaluation must provide course-by-course analysis and indicate documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts).]  Formal offer of employment contingent on the successful completion of the above.
