Conflict, Dialogue and Representation

Mr Lionel Jospin, former French Prime Minister and author of Le Mal napoléonien (Seuil 2014). Mr Jospin will deliver a keynote address entitled “De l’aventure napoléonienne au malaise européen (‘From the Napoleonic venture to the current European malaise’)

How does conflict arise? How is it represented, negotiated or resolved through literature, art, cinema, photography, music and language? To what extent can conflict be a productive as well as destructive force?

2nd Call for Papers:
You are invited to submit an abstract on or before 7 July 2014 and/or to attend the 22nd annual conference of the Australia Society for French Studies.
Proposals are invited for papers, panels and posters in French or English which discuss how conflict has shaped or been shaped by any aspect of the French language and Francophone culture.
Possible themes include: Military conflict; Political conflict; Regional conflict; Postcolonial conflict; Social conflict; Literary or artistic conflict; Linguistic conflict; Conflict and culture; Conflict in translation; Conflict in the classroom; Conflict within French Studies; Conflict between French Studies and other disciplines.
Proposals may be for:
- Papers: 20-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes of discussion
- Panels: Three or more presenters, 90 minutes including discussion
- Posters: All posters will be displayed during a one-hour session during which their presenters will be in attendance to discuss their work
