Meeting Description:

It is with great pleasure that we announce that the 5th International Conference on Language Disorders in Greek (LDG5) will take place in Limassol, Cyprus, on the 30th and the 31st of May 2014. This anniversary event marks 10 years since the first installment of this biannual conference. The event will be hosted by the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences from Cyprus University of Technology, the first public university in Cyprus and Greece offering undergraduate degree qualifications in Speech and Language Therapy since September 2013.

In 24 talks, research from four key labs will be presented:

1. Cyprus Acquisition Team (CAT), Nicosia, Cyprus.
Director: Kleanthes Grohmann
2. Language Development Research Lab, Thessaloniki, Greece.
Director: Ianthi Tsimpli
3. Center for Applied Neuroscience (CAN), Nicosia, Cyprus.
Director: Fofi Constantinidou
4. Thales-Aphasia project, Athens, Greece.
Director: Spyridoula Varlokosta

In addition, there will be an invited Anniversary Lecture by Arhonto Terzi, the founder of the LDG conference series.

The aim of the conference is to showcase research excellence on language disorders in speakers of Standard and Cypriot Greek despite the adverse effects of austerity measures on university and research programs in Cyprus and Greece.

Both theoretical and experimental research is welcome on any topic of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, or pragmatics. In addition research on reading, writing, learning and cognitive impairments are also of great interest.

We are accepting expressions of interest from your lab, or from any of your colleagues and students for poster presentations only.

LDG5 will provide excellent opportunities for participants to exchange ideas. It will facilitate discussions, including challenges to clinical and theoretical problems, and provide a forum for scientific debate and constructive interaction. Furthermore, LDG5 will provide a platform for educators, researchers, students, and practitioners to present their work, exchange knowledge, ideas, and experience, and identify solutions to existing challenges in bridging research with clinical practice.

Given the current economic climate, participation in the conference is free.

However we will need to ask for 30 euros for participation in the dinner.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
