Ce travail se présente comme une plate-forme pour l’étude de la main-d’œuvre esclave et autres dépendants dans les traités agronomiques. Le choix du texte de Caton le Censeur est dicté à la fois par le charismatique de l’auteur et la place de son œuvre. En effet, le De Agricultura est le premier traité agronomique latin qui retrace la vie quotidienne dans la campagne romaine du IIème s. av. J. C. Le corpus est établi a partir les données fournies par le De Agricultura. Le repérage des textes est dicté soit par la terminologie indiquant une forme servile, soit par la signification de la phrase ou le paragraphe. Et son découpage est normé par son apport référentiel. 

En vue d’une approche thématique, il est indispensable de se doter d’un outil de travail qui permet la ventilation et le croisement des données du corpus. Et c’est l’Index thématique des références à l’esclavage et à la dépendance comme outil de travail que nous avons adopté. L’intérêt de cet outil réside dans l’interactivité et la souplesse de ces composants qui engendre des questions appropriées au sujet. L’usage des mots-clefs donne au résultat de l’indexation du corpus une connotation scientifique en incluant des données numériques pour un traitement informatique. Et c’est le traitement de ses données qui offre des réflexions analytiques sur le dit et le non-dit du sujet en question. Outre, ils donnent la possibilité d’enrichir l’analyse historique avec des graphiques et d’autres illustrations enrichissants.

Ce travail a pour objectif la constitution une base de données sur les esclaves et autres dépendants d’après les traités agronomiques latins, mais aussi de contribuer à l’élaboration et l’enrichissement de l’Index thématique comme outil de travail pour le décryptage et l’analyse des textes, basée sur des méthodes pluridisciplinaires avec des approches linguistiques, historiques et anthropologiques.
