The University of New Mexico Department of Linguistics
Position Summary:
The Department of Linguistics at the University of New Mexico announces a
search for an Open Rank Professor, tenured or tenure track, to begin August
17, 2015. The position is contingent upon final budgetary approval. We are
seeking a faculty member to engage in:
1) Research on Navajo language and linguistics,
2) Teaching of upper division and graduate courses for language learners and
linguistics students, and
3) Collaborative work coordinating the Navajo Language Program, and
advisement of undergraduate and graduate students.
Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in Linguistics or related field, with a
concentration in language and linguistics. Evidence of research in one of the
following areas: Navajo language, education or cultural studies. Evidence of
teaching Navajo.
Preferred qualifications: Native or near-native fluency in Navajo; documented
experience in teaching Navajo and in Navajo language program development;
demonstrated experience in developing partnership programs with Navajo
educational institutions; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity,
inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse
communities. Research and teaching in Navajo linguistics.
