Description:
Paragon Testing Enterprises is seeking a psychometrician to join the company
during a phase of rapid development and growth. Paragon administers large
scale, standardized, language proficiency tests known as the CELPIP tests
across Canada. The psychometrician will play a pivotal role in the development
of quality assessments that meet and exceed the highest standards of the
profession.
Organization of Test Research and Development
The mission of Paragon’s Test Research and Development (Test R&D) unit is to
develop and produce innovative, valid, fair, accurate, and high quality
assessments through collaboration among the unit’s members and with its many
stakeholders. The unit is led by the manager, Test R&D who is responsible for
ensuring the quality of Paragon’s assessments, prioritizing research and
development projects, and coordinating the activities of this unit with those
of the company’s other administrative units. The psychometrician reports to
the manager, Test R&D, and works in close association with the most senior
language assessment specialist in the company who also reports to the manager.
These three individuals will collectively shape and direct the company’s test
research and development activities.
Responsibilities of the Position
The psychometrician will play a leading role in ensuring the quality of test
scores. The psychometrician will make major contributions to and have the
opportunity to lead teams in research projects. The candidate should be
knowledgeable about and experienced with psychometric approaches to issues
related to standard setting, rating decision accuracy and consistency, using
CTT, IRT, and construct validation, and new approaches (e.g., MIRT, LCM, CDM).
The psychometrican will also contribute to the valid interpretation of
research analyses and results. This work will involve collaborating closely
with language assessment specialists and potentially other content experts
throughout a research project.
Paragon’s psychometrician will have the opportunity to actively collaborate
with leading scholars from prestigious universities including UBC, Carleton
University, and University of Toronto (OISE). The psychometrician will also be
a pivotal person in ensuring that Paragon’s communications and relations with
regulators, score users, end users, external professional associations, and
researchers reflect the company’s commitment to delivering valid and reliable
test scores that meet the highest industry standards.
Qualified candidates will
- Have a PhD from an accredited university in psychometrics, measurement,
statistics, or a related field or have submitted their dissertation to the PhD
committee for evaluation,
- Possess current knowledge of issues and methods in educational measurement
and psychometrics,
- Have experience designing and implementing psychometric analysis and
research projects in academic and/or assessment industry environments,
- Be competent in a range of statistical software packages, such as Mplus,
SPSS, Xcalibre, etc.
A qualified candidate will have substantive experience in the development and
operations lifecycle of assessments. A track record in research and
development that demonstrates innovation is also required along with a
demonstrated ability to respond flexibly to the needs of clients and
stakeholders. Candidates for this position should also be actively involved in
conference and research communities and have a track record in scholarly
publication.
