Linguistic Field(s): Discourse Analysis; Sociolinguistics
Meeting Description:
Since its inception, Conversation Analysis has been characterized by an interest in communication in institutional settings; today, more and more scholars are engaged in partnerships with public and private institutions interested in monitoring their own communicative practices and in receiving suggestions for professional training. At the same time, conversation analysts have progressively broadened their scope of investigation by examining interactions occurring in professional settings that have traditionally been studied by scholars from other more or less related disciplines (e.g. psychology, archeology, architecture, performing arts, etc.), with whom collaboration is paramount.
Against this background, the Conversation Analysis Study Day aims at promoting discussion on possible applications of CA, by examining aspects and issues linked to both the various steps of the research process - ethnographic fieldwork, data collection and filing, impact on the professional practice examined, publication of results, etc. - and the ensuing interdisciplinary collaboration.
