Meeting Description:

Convened by Professor Stephen May, LED is an international conference series which focuses specifically on the impact of increased cultural linguistic diversity, at both national and supranational levels, and its consequences for the theory, policy and practice of language education. As such, LED provides an international forum that brings together the latest academic and policy discussions, and promotes critical debate, on the often-complex interconnections between diversity and language education.

The LED conference is held every four years and is the fourth of its kind. As with its predecessors, LED 2015 will focus on language and education, with particular reference to addressing/accommodating diversity. This is a major international conference that will focus on language and education, with particular reference to addressing/accommodating diversity. Within this broad focus, there will be specific conference streams on:

- English language education
- Literacy education (including school-, adult- and multi-literacies)
- Language education planning and policy
- Bilingual/immersion education

A key feature of the LED conference is that it brings together the latest academic discussions in these areas with an emphasis on their implications for policy and practice.  As such, the LED Conference is pivotal to the ongoing development of the language education field and all those working in it.  This is your chance to be part of a truly international event, one which is held every 4 years and hosts delegates from over 40 countries.

The keynote speakers, who are all published and recognised experts in their fields, will present the following issues:

Professor Jasone Cenoz, University of the Basque Country
Professor. Elana Shohamy, Tel Aviv University
Professor. Steven Thorne, Portland State University
Professor. Ryuko Kubota, University of British Columbia
Galumalemana Alfred Hunkin, a prominent New Zealand Pacific leader of Samoan ancestry
