 Dear Fellow Linguists,

We are on our way to hitting the $35,000 mark soon, but these past few days have been pretty slow for Fund Drive 2015. Will you help us reach that number today by donating? We NEED to reach our $79,000 goal, and we all hope to do that soon! As of 4:30 pm (EST), we are only at $ 32,775.50. If you’d like LINGUIST List to continue operating free of charge to our subscribers, the choice is yours—YOU decide the future of LINGUIST LIST!

As a reminder, we have several donation benefits you can enjoy no matter how much you donate.

In our Subfield Challenge, computational linguistics continues to dominate with donations totaling over $6,800 dollars. Take a look how all of the subfields rank:

1. Computational Linguistics ($6,870)
2. Syntax ($4,281)
3. Sociolinguistics ($3,303)
4. Phonology ($2,619)
5. Semantics ($2,040)
6. Historical Linguistics ($1,855)
7. Discourse Analysis ($1,635)
8. Morphology ($1,602)
9. Pragmatics ($1,494)
10. Language Acquisition ($1,455)
11. Phonetics ($1,081)
12. Language Documentation ($965)
13. Psycholinguistics ($845)
14. Applied Linguistics ($736)
15. Cognitive Science ($535)
16. Typology ($518)
17. Text/Corpus Linguistics ($450)
18. Neurolinguistics ($425)
19. Anthropological Linguistics ($365)
20. History of Linguistics ($290)
21. Lexicography ($205)
22. Writing Systems ($120)
23. Forensic Linguistics ($100)
24. Translation ($41)
25. Ling and Literature ($30)
26. Philosophy of Language ($25)

This means we currently have 26 out of 27 subfields represented! All we have left is genetic classification! It’s your turn to step up!

In our University Challenge, Indiana University Bloomington and the University of Washington are in a tight battle! IUB holds the lead, but it’s been quite a few weeks since we’ve seen any new donations from them. UW could steal that
spot any second, and so could Stanford! Or, will it be YOUR university?! We currently have representation from nearly 250 different universities around the world! We are grateful to have hit that number, but we know we have thousands and thousands of subscribers from all over the world—it’s your turn to step up!

Today we received donations from the University of Connecticut, University of Manchester, and Baylor University!

Please visit http://funddrive.linguistlist.org/university/ for a full list!

Check out the results of our Business Challenge:

1. Google, Inc ($4,000)
2. Microsoft Natural Language Group ($200)
3. IBM Watson ($150)

We look forward to this list growing and hopefully some stiff competition!

In our Region Challenge, North America leads with 258 individual donors, 243 of those from the USA. As mentioned, we know LINGUIST List is used all over the world, and ask for help from those all over the world! Help your region
and country get to the top!

Please visit http://funddrive.linguistlist.org/region/ and http://funddrive.linguistlist.org/country/ for full lists!

To make a donation and help your subfield, university, business, region, or country win, please visit http://funddrive.linguistlist.org/donate/.

Thank you all for your support!

Sincerely,
The LINGUIST List Team
