Meeting Description:

The conference Sound to Word in Bilingual and Second Language Speech Perception will be held at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, from April 1-2, 2016.

The goal of the conference is to provide a venue for discussing how bilingual and second language learners perceive their two (or more) languages and how the particularities of speech perception in individuals who know more than one language influence lexical representations. 

We are also pleased to announce the participation of the following Keynote Speakers and Panel Discussants:

Final Call for Papers:

We would like to invite graduate students and researchers interested in second language and bilingual speech perception to submit abstracts to 'Sound to Word 16' at the University of Iowa on April 1-2, 2016.

We invite abstracts on topics related to speech perception and lexical encoding by bilingual (two languages from birth) or second language (additional or sequential languages) listeners. We are particularly interested in presentations that test theoretical models or proposals and relate to the following issues: 

1. The role of phonetic detail in the bilingual lexicon and lexical activation. 
2. The role of variability in the input and its effects on lexical encoding in bilingual and second language learners. 
3. The role of orthography in speech perception and lexical activation.

Abstracts can be a maximum of 500 words (please indicate word count at the bottom), excluding title, references and figures. 

We have extended the abstract submission deadline to December 22, 2015. Decisions on acceptance will be sent out by January 15, 2016.
