Description:

The Dept. of World Languages and Cultures is seeking candidates for a
non-tenure track 9-month Lecturer appointment to teach French and Spanish
beginning in the fall of 2015.

Position contingent upon funding.

Responsibilities

a) Teach and design courses in Spanish and French at all levels;
b) Contribute to the department's International Studies Program as needed
(advising students and facilitating international internship placements and
contacts with Deaf communities abroad);
c) Contingent upon institutional needs, teach and design courses for the
University's interdisciplinary General Studies Program; 
d) Contribute to the Department's study abroad programs and international
internships in Spanish and French-speaking countries;
e) Contribute to the growth of the department into areas such as foreign sign
language. 
f) Demonstrate a profound commitment to high-quality teaching and an interest
in developing innovative pedagogical strategies;
g) Assist the department in fulfilling its mission, particularly with regard
to student recruitment and retention, and provide service to the profession,
the University, and the Department

Requirements

a) Masters degree (minimum) in the foreign language teaching field or a
related field, such as Education, TESOL, or Applied Linguistics. 
b) Native or near native fluency in written French and Spanish.
c) Fluency in ASL [a score of 2.5 or above on the Gallaudet University’s ASL
Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) or the equivalent] or native/ near native
proficiency in a foreign sign language, as well as ability to communicate in

d) Demonstrated experience as a successful language teacher
e) Experience teaching deaf and hard of hearing students at the university or
postsecondary level.
f) An interdisciplinary outlook on education and a willingness to participate
in and design interdisciplinary courses to be co-taught within the framework
of the University's General Studies Program;
g) Experience supporting study abroad programs and/or availability to
accompany student groups abroad;
h) Ability to teach a foreign sign language and previous experience and
contacts with Deaf communities abroad are highly desirable. 
i) Willingness to pursue Ph.D. studies in the foreign language field.

Salary/Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
