Abstract:
This publication presents the second volume of results from the joint research
cluster Disputationes Iranologicae Vindobonenses, a project run by the
Institute of Iranian Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the
Department of Beni Culturali at the University of Bologna in Italy. The two
monographs published in this volume combine contributions made to several
joint conferences held alternately in Italy and Austria. The study On
Morphological Structures in the System of Personal Names by Velizar Sadovski
analyzes interrelations between word formation and semantics within older
Indo-Iranian onomastic systems. Antonio Panainos' study Mortality and
Immortality. Yama/Yima's Choice and the Primordial Incest (Mythologica
Indo-Iranica, I) discusses the mythologem of the 'primordial twins' and twins
in the Avestan and the Vedic tradition, taking into account a whole range of
cultural-historical parallels in other Indo-European mythologies and
religions. The third volume in the series Disputationes Iranologicae
Vindobonenses is currently being completed and will be presented for
publication during the coming academic year. (Austrian Academy of Sciences
