Description:
The Department of Linguistics at University of Antwerp is welcoming applications for the following position:
- predoctoral researcher (PhD candidate) in the domain of diachronic Dutch linguistics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The researcher will play a key role in a research project titled 'De-auxiliarization in the Dutch and English modals: A comparative diachronic corpus investigation', conducted in collaboration with the University of Amsterdam and financed by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). (S)he will be co-responsible for the Dutch component of the project, in close collaboration with the Antwerp project supervisor (Prof. Dr. Jan Nuyts). S/he is also assumed to collaborate closely with the researchers dealing with the English component, at the University of Amsterdam (under supervision of Prof. Dr. Olga Fischer).
Requirements:
- a master's degree in Languages and Linguistics (or a related discipline), preferably with a specialization in Dutch linguistics; training in corpus research and/or in the grammatical analysis of Dutch is advantageous;
- perfect command of Dutch (preferably, a native speaker); good active knowledge of English is desirable; a good reading knowledge of Middle Dutch is an asset.
The appointment is for 4 years, starting July 1, 2015, or sooner if possible. The contract type depends on the past career, the net salary is, in most cases, roughly in the range of 2000 Euros monthly.
