SyMiLa 2015: Syntactic Microvariation in the Romance Languages of France
International Workshop
June 11-12, 2015
CLLE-ERSS (Université de Toulouse 2-Le Mirail)
https://sites.google.com/site/symila2015/home
The goal of the SyMiLa (http://blogs.univ-tlse2.fr/symila/) project is 1) to document (while it is still possible) the fine patterns of syntactic variation found in the endangered Romance languages of France (dialects of French or langue d'Oïl, of Occitan, of Francoprovençal or of Catalan), 2) to share our empirical results with the scientific community, and 3) to use these results to derive consequences for theoretical linguistics.
Within the context of the scientific activities associated with this ANR grant, we are organizing an international workshop on June 11-12, 2015. We therefore invite the submission of abstracts dealing with the syntactic description and/or the theoretical analysis of French Romance varieties and their immediate extensions (from a synchronic or diachronic perspective) for a 20 minute presentation, followed by a 10 minute discussion period. In the selection process, proposals that study the territory covered by the Atlas Linguistique de la France will be given priority; however, presentations that deal with other related dialects spoken in Europe, Africa or North America are also very welcome.
Invited Speakers:
Julie Auger (Indiana University)
Paola Benincà (Università degli Studi di Padova)
Organizing Committee Members:
Heather Burnett (CLLE-ERSS/IJN)
Anne Dagnac (CLLE-ERSS)
Patric Sauzet (CLLE-ERSS)
Financial support for this conference is provided by:
L'agence nationale de la recherche, Le centre national de la recherche scientifique, L'Université de Toulouse
2nd Call for Papers:
One-page abstracts should be sent to the following email address: symila.mirail at gmail.com
on or before January 31, 2015.
The languages of the conference will be French and English, and we aim to publish proceedings of the conference as a special issue of an academic journal (t.b.d.).
