Abstract:

In dit proefschrift wordt een methode voor taalkundig-stilistisch onderzoek uitgewerkt waarmee op systematische wijze globale indrukken van een tekst kunnen worden verklaard door formuleringskeuzes op woord- en zinsniveau. De methode wordt geïllustreerd aan de hand van verschillende gevalsstudies, waarin parlementaire toespraken van Geert Wilders (PVV), Ella Vogelaar (PvdA) en Alexander Pechtold (D66) centraal staan. Hoe draagt het taalgebruik van Wilders bijvoorbeeld bij aan de indruk dat hij zich positioneert als een ‘politieke buitenstaander’, en een ‘man van het volk’? Bij het beantwoorden van deze en andere vragen worden tal van stilistische verschijnselen behandeld waarvoor in de analyse van politiek taalgebruik tot op heden nauwelijks aandacht is geweest.

Het algemene doel van deze dissertatie is te laten zien dat een taalkundig-stilistische benadering vruchtbaar is voor de analyse van Nederlandstalige teksten. De taalkundige stilistiek is een vorm van tekstanalyse waarbij causale verbanden worden gelegd tussen formuleringskeuzes in een tekst en globale indrukken van zo’n tekst als geheel. Deze vorm van stijlonderzoek wordt in het Nederlandse onderzoek naar taalgebruik tot op heden nauwelijks toegepast.

Dit boek is van belang voor taalbeheersers en taalkundigen die geïnteresseerd zijn in effecten van formuleringskeuzes en het doen van taalkundig-stilistisch onderzoek, en voor iedereen die belangstelling heeft voor de vraag hoe keuzes in het taalgebruik bijdragen aan beeldvorming van politici.
