Description:
The Center for Language Science at The Pennsylvania State University (http://cls.psu.edu/) invites applications for an Assistant Director position, beginning Fall 2015, with an initial appointment of three years. The Center for Language Science is a cross-disciplinary research center that includes approximately 20 faculty, 35 doctoral students, 10 postdoctoral fellows, and many undergraduate research students across linguistics, psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and speech and language pathology. Successful candidates must have earned a Ph.D. by August 2015 in an area of research that falls within the cross-disciplinary scope of the language sciences. Candidates should also provide strong evidence of interdisciplinary research experience and an indication of past administrative experience. The Assistant Director will assist the Center’s directors and faculty in overseeing its research and organizational operations, including supervision of laboratory staff, allocation of research
facilities, organization of weekly speaker series and other events, outreach activities, grant and report writing, and maintenance of websites and other social media. The resources available within the Center will make it possible for the person in this position to continue to conduct an active research program in addition to performing the required administrative duties. Candidates should have excellent English writing skills, the ability to perform several tasks concurrently, exceptional organizational and planning skills, strong interpersonal skills, and should be able to interact comfortably with people both in the academic and broader communities. Bilingual ability and flair for creating engaging public educational materials about language science (for social media and local events) is an asset.
