1st World Asian Studies – 2015 Committee seeks sessions that will engage panelists and audiences in the consideration of ideas, information, and interpretations that will advance knowledge about Asian studies including Asian archives,Asian Religions, Asian History and Heritage, Asian Migrants, Traditional Asia, Asian art etc.

The scheduled conference organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka which will provide a research platform for academics, scholars, thinkers, practitioners, and corporate and public policy-makers around the world to exchange knowledge, discuss issues, share innovations, and build networks.

Call for Papers:

On behalf of the Program Committee of 1st Annual World Asian Studies Conference (WASC-2015), we are pleased to invite you to submit your research proposals for Oral Presentations, Poster Presentations or Virtual Presentations which to be held during 11-13 August 2015 at Hotel Galadari, Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The Committee seeks sessions that will engage panelists and audiences in the consideration of ideas, information, and interpretations that will advance knowledge about Asian studies including Asian archives, Asian Religions, Asian History and Heritage, Asian Migrants, Traditional Asia, Asian Art, etc.

We welcome proposals for papers from researchers, scholars and practitioners at all levels in the education system that addresses different aspects of Asian studies. Topics of interest for submission include the following 10 sub themes, but are not limited to:

Asian Archives: Manuscripts and other endangered documents related to Asian history, culture, drawings, maps and photographs should be encouraged.

Asian languages and literature: Studies on oriental languages such as Sinhala, Tamil, Pali and Sanskrit and studies related to Asian literature should be encouraged.

Asian Religions: Manuscripts and other working papers related to the Asian religions such as Buddhism ,Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Bahá’í Faith, Islam, Taoic religions, Confucianism, Daoism, Chinese ethnic religion, Shinto, Mugyo, Indian religions, Jainism, Lingayatism, Sikhism given priority. Other religious studies can also be incorporated.

Asian History and Heritage: Research on South Asian Archaeology will be given foremost priority. Asian hydraulic civilization, Chronicles and historical traditions, Indian Ocean trade, South Asian influence in Southeast Asia, Urbanization and State formation, Pre-modern Asia, religious revivalism and National movement will also be investigated.

Asia and the West: Encounter with Western colonial powers will be investigated mainly through Asian sources and the Asian point of view. The study of our Industrial heritage, changes to the landscape, new townscapes and architecture with Western influence will be encouraged.

Asian Migrants: Studies on the migration of South Asian workers to the other parts of the world and history of such a movement in the past taking into account. Also studies on refugees, illegal migrations of Asians to other part of the world counted as a interesting topics.

Traditional Asia: Aspects of traditional Asian sciences, technologies and knowledge will be investigated. Asian hunter-gatherers, Ayurveda medicine, slash and burn cultivation, pack-animal transportation, traditional sea faring and methods of fishing, rituals and ceremonies, marriage customs, Folk-lore and other aspects of Asian ethnology will be incorporated.

Asian Environment: Research on various aspects of Asian environment are encouraged. Sea level changes, environmental change, tsunami and other natural hazards, tropical mountains are some of the prioritized areas under this theme.

Asian Art: Contemporary art and literature, drama and theatre, visual art and other creative work will be patronized. Cultural shows, exhibitions, workshops and similar activities are encouraged.

Contemporary Asia: Studies on economy, politics and society of contemporary Asia are covered under this theme. Research on bilateral relations, trade and cultural agreements, Regional corporation, mitigating terrorism and peace building efforts is also encouraged.
