Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics; Cognitive Science; Computational Linguistics; Lexicography
Call Deadline: 30-Apr-2015
Meeting Description:
Natural language understanding systems require a knowledge base provided with formal representations reflecting the structure of human beings' cognitive system. Although surface semantics can be sufficient in some other systems, the construction of a robust knowledge base guarantees its use in most natural language processing applications, consolidating thus the concept of resource reuse. This conference deals with meaning and knowledge representation in the context of natural language understanding from the perspective of theoretical linguistics, computational linguistics, cognitive science, knowledge engineering or artificial intelligence.
Following the success of the 2012, 2013 and 2014 Conferences in Madrid, Granada and Valencia respectively, the Fourth International Conference on Meaning and Knowledge Representation will take place in Madrid (Spain), July 1, 2 and 3, 2015.
Call for Papers:
Proposals for contributions may be submitted until April 30, 2015.
We invite 20-minute (plus 10-minute discussion) presentation proposals on the following general and/or specific topics:
General Topics:
a. At the crossroads between functionalist, cognitivist and/or constructionist approaches.
b. Division of labour of lexical semantics and constructional semantics.
c. Role of metaphor and metonymy and other cognitive operations in meaning construction and grammar.
d. Relationship between semantics, pragmatics and discourse in meaning construction and/or meaning representation.
e. Cognitive modeling and construal.
f. Pragmatic inferencing.
Papers that pay special attention to the treatment of these topics within the Lexical Constructional Model (LCM) and FunGramKB are particularly welcome.
