Description:

The Department of Linguistics at University of Antwerp is welcoming
applications for the following position: researcher (100%) in the area of
corpus linguistics.

Duties and responsibilities

- You assist in carrying out research related to the ERC starting grant
‘Mind-Bending Grammars: The dynamics of correlated multiple grammatical
changes in Early Modern English writers’
(https://www.uantwerpen.be/nl/projecten/mind-bending-grammars/, PI Peter
Petré). The central topic of this project is how much syntactic change is
possible in adult individuals;
- You are responsible for
 - Formatting of the corpus;
 - Development and follow-up of a customized concordancing program &
interactive platform, which integrates the analyses of the different team
members;
- You are involved in
 - The composition of the corpus; 
 - The statistical processing of the data; 
 - Optimalisation of the OCR-quality of some of the data. 
- You contribute to teaching in the department of linguistics.

Requirements

- You hold at least a master degree in computational linguistics, IT or an
equivalent degree;
- You are familiar with a scripting language (Perl, Python, Java); 
- Familiarity with one or more of the following is an asset:
 - Regular expressions; 
 - Advanced statistics;
 - XML, TEI P5;
 - Website management;
 - Relational databases (SQL, PostgreSQL); 
 - OCR-technology
- You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative;

We offer an appointment for 2 years, starting 1 September 2015, with a
competitive salary (gross monthly salary ranges from 3.145,57 euro – 5.323,28
euro), in a dynamic team on a prestigious research project financed by the
European Research Council.
