The Faculty of Humanities at Georg-August-University Göttingen invites applications for a level W3 professorship in general linguistics, starting 01.4.2016.
The successful candidate will be responsible for academic duties in the entire range in general linguistics with a focus on historical comparative, Indo-European linguistics and be fully knowledgeable in language typology. Indo-European linguistics is an integral component of the Göttingen linguistics program. Expected is a research area in empirical, preferably historical, comparative linguistics, with modern standards, compatible and bordering with synchronic theoretical linguistics.
Candidates are required to have a thematically relevant, outstanding PhD thesis, and should have obtained other scientific qualities, such an assistant professorship or habilitation, and proven experience in academic teaching. The ideal applicant has an interdisciplinary orientation, and is able to cooperate in current and future linguistic research clusters, specifically in the Courant Centre "Text Structures", and in the joint linguistic research network “Language and Cognition”. Ideally, the candidate is open for collaboration with the Göttingen Centre for Digital Humanities. The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of linguistic curricula at the Faculty of Humanities. Active participation in academic administration will be expected.
