Meeting Description:
Conferences of the Society for Caribbean Linguistics (SCL) welcome and encourage the participation of scholars, students, educators, writers, and the general public. Sessions include presentations, workshops, colloquia, poster sessions, plenary addresses, and field trips. The conferences provide many informal and meaningful opportunities for linguistic discussion.
Conferences are held every two years, and have been held in all the UWI campus territories (Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago), as well as in Aruba, the Bahamas, Belize, Curaçao, Dominica, French Guiana, Guyana, St. Lucia, St. Maarten and Suriname.
Call for Papers:
The Society for Caribbean Linguistics (SCL) will host its 21st Biennial Conference to be held at the University of the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica, The conference theme is: Caribbean Languages to the World. Abstracts on all issues and topics related to Caribbean languages are welcome. Caribbean languages include spoken and signed languages, Amerindian languages, creole languages, standardised, official and non-standardised language varieties, immigrant languages, heritage languages, endangered languages, and religious and ritual languages. The conference organisers are encouraging in particular, panels in the following areas, with a view to early paper publication after the conference:
- Language and Law
- The Researcher/ Linguist as Public Intellectual
- Language and Education
- Language Rights
- Language and Music
- Language and Sexuality
- Bilingualism in All Its Manifestations
Deadline for submission of abstracts – 15 February 2016
Notification of acceptance - 15 April 2016
Deadline for submission of full papers – 15 July 2016
