26th Annual Graduate and Professional Symposium on Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literature, Language and Culture at the University of Arizona

The Symposium Committee will consider abstracts for research in Latin American and Peninsular Cultures, Literatures and Linguistics. Potential areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
Linguistics: Language Variation in Contact Zones, including Spanish in the U.S; Multi/Bilingualism including Spanish and/or Portuguese Phonetics, Phonology and Syntax; L2, L3, Ln Acquisition in Spanish and Portuguese or from Spanish and Luso-Brazilian speakers; Language Policy; Language and Identity; Heritage Languages, in the US and/or L2 Pedagogies
Literature: Digital Humanities; Counter-Discourses; Gender and Representation; Identity Politics; Border Securitization; Wide Border Topics including Languages, and Cultures; Dis/Ability or Dis/ Able-Bodiedness; Film; Memory; Culture Studies
Roundtable Discussions:
- How to be inclusive of all genders or gender neutral when language requires gender specificity
- When language policy does not reflect the needs of our students: Bridging Policy and Pedagogy

The Symposium Committee is pleased to invite all interested graduate students, scholars and professionals to submit presentation or poster abstracts, and panel proposals for the 26th Annual Graduate and Professional Symposium on Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literature, Language and Culture at the University of Arizona. Join us to celebrate the merging of languages and cultures in one of the US’s oldest multicultural landscapes. Come to a historic city where languages, cultures and literatures co-exist creating a thriving contact zone. Experience Tucson!
The Submission Deadline for Presentation or Poster abstracts (250 words), and Panel Proposals (100 words with an abstract for each of 3-5 participants) is November 15, 2015. Abstracts, presentations, proposals, and posters and can be delivered in Spanish, Portuguese, or English. Specify category. Forward inquiries and submissions to the Symposium Committee, at spanport-symposium at email.arizona.edu.
Registration: Includes access to exhibits at the conference location, welcoming ceremony, refreshments, roundtable discussions and professional development workshop. On-Site Registration Fee: $50 Cash
